During the unprecedented times of the great lockdown, I took up running for the first time. It was really tough for me at the start, and I nearly quit! However, what propelled me forward, transforming my reluctance into perseverance, was the breathtaking beauty of the parks, reserves, and landscapes nestled within the heart of Casey City.
My running adventures often led me to marvel at the serene beauty of nature. I vividly recall the countless occasions when the stunning vistas of Frog Hollow Reserve in Endeavour Hills captivated me, with the hues of the sunset painting the sky in a myriad of colors. Similarly, the tranquil mornings spent watching the sunrise bathe Lysterfield Lake Park in a golden glow provided a sense of peace and motivation that was truly unparalleled. Beyond these well-known spots, I explored numerous unnamed reserves and retention basins, each with its own unique charm and beauty.
The decision of which trail to embark upon was always a delightful dilemma, given the many magnificent paths available within Casey. Each run presented an opportunity to discover something new, to be awed by the natural beauty surrounding me, and to push my limits a little further.
This journey of discovery, set against the backdrop of Casey’s stunning landscapes, culminated in a personal triumph—I completed the Melbourne Marathon, covering the full distance of 42.2 kilometers. This achievement was not just a testament to my physical endurance but also a celebration of the inspiration I drew from training amidst the charming beauty of Casey.
I recognize that the beauty of these parks and reserves doesn’t just happen; it’s the result of the constant care and hard work of council workers. Maintaining these spaces is a challenging job, but it’s crucial for our community. If elected, I pledge to continue this great work, ensuring our parks and reserves are not only maintained but also improved and made more accessible to everyone in the local community. I am committed to preserving them for future generations to enjoy.
